Cheesy Cabbage Casserole
Cabbage Casserole makes a filling, hearty and warm meal. This Cabbage Casserole Recipe will also store well for several days in the refrigerator or you can freeze leftovers to enjoy another meal.
Cabbage Casserole Recipe Ingredients:
- 1 medium-size green cabbage, cut into thin wedges
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 3 tablespoons chili sauce
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 cup chopped green pepper
Cabbage Casserole Recipe Instructions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees
Add cabbage wedges with water to large saucepan and cover and cook over medium heat for about 15 minutes to soften the cabbage.
Drain and set cabbage in a large baking dish.
Melt butter in a pan and stir in flour. Stir constantly to smooth butter and flour mixture, then add milk and continue to stir until thick.
Blend in the salt and pepper.
Add mixture over cabbage, and bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes.
Mix cheese, mayonnaise, chili sauce, onion, and green pepper and place on cabbage.
Bake an additional 20 minutes at 375 degrees.
Let cool a bit before serving.
